BUNDLE REVIEW

HALO 5 + Defender II

Buyers who want a dealer-installed system with certified PFOS/PFOA reduction and are willing to engineer parallel Defender units for higher flow

BUNDLE ARCHITECTURE

The bundle is only as strong as its weakest stage.

FilterTier treats a filter + conditioner + UV combination as one hydraulic system. Effective flow is capped by the lowest-rated stage, and maintenance/warranty exposure is combined.

① Main filter

Chemical, sediment or specialty contaminant reduction.

② Hard-water stage

True ion-exchange softening or salt-free scale conditioning — never treated as the same thing.

③ Optional UV / specialty

Adds microbial or specialty treatment, but may lower the effective flow of the complete chain.

BUNDLE BOTTLENECK

Weakest component

A single Defender II is the flow bottleneck; multiple units should be installed in parallel for high-flow homes

WHAT'S ACTUALLY INCLUDED

Every stage matters.

Stage 1: HALO 5 whole-house filtration / conditioning.

Stage 2: HALO Defender II certified PFAS/lead/cyst cartridge.

Maintenance summary

HALO 5 uses long-life media/backwashing depending on configuration. Defender II cartridges are rated to 93,250 gallons and must be replaced at capacity. Parallel Defender units divide household flow and cartridge loading.

Warranty summary

Coverage is component- and dealer-specific. Verify HALO 5 and Defender terms separately.

FilterTier watchouts

One Defender II is only 4.21 GPM certified peak flow, so a single unit is not appropriate for a high-demand large home.

WHY BUNDLES GET THEIR OWN PAGE

A bundle is not just the sum of the spec sheets.

FilterTier scores effective flow, combined replacement schedules, combined warranty exposure and the weakest treatment stage across the installed chain.

COMPATIBILITY & ADD-ONS

What you can — and shouldn’t — add to this system.

Whole-house systems are modular, but every extra stage changes flow, pressure drop, maintenance and cost. We separate useful upgrades from redundant or poorly matched add-ons.

WORKS WITH THIS SYSTEM

Compatible add-ons

  • Sediment prefiltration: appropriate where grit, sand or particulate load could shorten downstream filter life.
  • UV disinfection: can be added downstream when water quality and UV sizing support it.
  • Parallel Defender II housings: useful when a single Defender II's certified flow would otherwise bottleneck a higher-demand home.
  • Point-of-use RO: may be added at selected drinking taps for additional dissolved-contaminant reduction.

WATCH THE COMBINATION

Not recommended / not compatible

  • Do not run a large high-flow home through one Defender II and treat the HALO 5 tank rating as the system flow. The lowest-flow stage controls bundle performance.
  • Do not add redundant treatment solely because it is available. Iron, sulfur, hardness and microbial treatment should be selected from test results.
  • Do not place UV ahead of unresolved turbidity or sediment problems.

Configuration notes

For this bundle, the Defender II is the critical sizing point. Additional pre/post treatment should be laid out so every stage can pass the target household service flow. Dealer confirmation is especially important for parallel Defender configurations, pressure-drop calculations and UV sizing.
