Maintenance
Low-maintenance rankings reward systems that minimize recurring homeowner work: fewer cartridge changes, longer media life, fewer salt refills and less required dealer service.
Maintenance is evaluated as a complete ownership burden. A system with a long-life main tank can still require frequent sediment filters, UV lamps or other consumables.
These are the current exact-model systems that meet the evidence threshold for this category. The order can change as specifications, certifications, pricing and product lines are updated.

Scoring accounts for main media life, prefilters, cartridge frequency, salt use, backwashing, UV service, cleaning requirements and expected professional service. Long-life claims receive more credit when the interval is clearly documented.
FilterTier only moves a system into a finalized ranked position when the exact model has enough verified evidence for the category. Marketing claims, peak-flow numbers and component certifications are not treated as equivalent to exact-system performance.
Do not stop at the main tank. Sediment cartridges, UV lamps, sleeves, salt and specialty filters can create more recurring work than the primary media.
Backwashing and regenerating systems automate cleaning, but they can still need salt, drain access, valve service or media replacement over time.
The lowest-maintenance system is not useful if it fails to address the water problem. Treatment fit comes first.
Often, but not always. Long-life media tanks can reduce filter changes, while some require backwashing or salt. The full maintenance schedule matters.
Usually it avoids salt refills and regeneration, but prefilters or carbon stages can still need service.
Many UV systems require scheduled lamp replacement, commonly around once per year, even when the lamp still appears to be operating.
