GREEN-CARBON-10-FG

City-water homes with roughly 1–3 bathrooms that want low-maintenance whole-home catalytic-carbon treatment for chlorine/chloramine taste and odor concerns without backwashing, electricity or a drain, and whose peak demand fits APEC's 10 GPM rating.

SYSTEM ARCHITECTURE

See the treatment chain before you read the specs.

Water enters at the main line, moves through each treatment stage, and then feeds the entire house. The exact hardware varies by model, but the comparison logic stays the same.

SYSTEM TYPE

Whole-house carbon filter

① Pretreatment

Sediment or spin-down filtration protects downstream media when required.

② Main treatment

Carbon, specialty media, ion exchange, oxidation or another primary treatment stage.

③ Optional stages

Softening, salt-free conditioning, UV or polishing filters may be separate components.

OWNERSHIP REALITY

What you replace, what it costs, and what the warranty actually covers.

Routine maintenance

The GREEN-CARBON-10 uses an upflow catalytic-carbon tank with no backwashing, regeneration, electricity or drain. APEC describes it as virtually maintenance-free between media changes; replace the catalytic carbon about every 5–8 years. The current package also includes a washable/reusable sediment prefilter, which should be inspected and cleaned based on sediment loading and pressure drop.

Major replacement

The main long-cycle service item is the catalytic granular activated-carbon media, which APEC says to replace about every 5–8 years. The tank, bypass and fittings are not routine replacement items. If the included sediment prefilter is installed, clean or replace that cartridge as needed based on sediment loading.

Warranty details

APEC's current whole-house warranty covers GREEN-CARBON systems for 10 years on tanks, valves, in/out non-electric heads, bypasses and fittings against defects in material and workmanship under normal use and service. Standard exclusions and claim conditions apply. The current product page also advertises a 10-year limited warranty.

FilterTier watchouts

This is a catalytic-carbon filter, not a true water softener. APEC's product page makes chlorine, chloramine, VOC and THM reduction claims and says the Green Carbon media is NSF certified, but FilterTier did not verify a current whole-system third-party contaminant-reduction certification for the exact GREEN-CARBON-10-FG. Do not interpret the media certification statement as proof that the complete system has an NSF contaminant-reduction certification. APEC does not recommend outdoor installation, and the 10 GPM rating should be checked against the home's simultaneous peak demand.

ORIGIN & MANUFACTURING

Where this system is actually made.

FilterTier distinguishes headquarters, design, manufacturing and final assembly. When an exact model's origin is not publicly confirmed, we say that instead of guessing.

RESEARCH STATUS

Verified current APEC GREEN-CARBON-10-FG product page, whole-house warranty and FAQ: 1–3 bathroom sizing, 10 GPM flow, 1-inch FPT, 1.0 cu ft catalytic carbon, no-backwash/no-electric/no-drain design, 5–8 year media-change guidance, current $849.99 sold-out status and 10-year covered-component warranty. Manufacturer contaminant claims are kept distinct from whole-system third-party certification.

Origin detail

APEC states its whole-house systems are designed and engineered in the USA, but the current GREEN-CARBON-10-FG materials reviewed do not clearly state that the complete system is manufactured or assembled entirely in the USA.

WHY IT MATTERS

Country-of-origin can affect buyer preference, serviceability, parts availability and perceived manufacturing quality — but it is scored separately from filtration performance.

FILTERTIER PRICE TRACKER

What it actually costs — not what the fake sale badge says.

We track observed selling prices over time and compare today's price with the system's normal range. Crossed-out MSRP and perpetual “50% off” labels do not count as meaningful savings.

How to read this price

Manufacturer-direct APEC price observed at $849.99 on 2026-10-02; product page showed sold out when checked. FilterTier does not infer a discount from a missing/unclear regular price.

A big “discount” does not automatically mean a good deal.

If a system is almost always sold at 40–55% off MSRP, FilterTier treats that sale price as the normal market price and judges value from there.

INSTALLATION CONTEXT

Think about the system in your mechanical room — not just on a product page.

Before your plumber orders it, confirm:

• Main-line size and connection diameter • Available service flow and incoming pressure • Drain requirement / backwash routing • Electrical outlet or UV/controller power • Tank/cartridge replacement clearance • Bypass and isolation valves • Pressure gauges before/after restrictive stages • Floor drain / leak protection where appropriate

FilterTier rule

The best treatment spec is still the wrong purchase if it cannot be installed, serviced, or supplied with enough flow in your actual house.
