Smaller homes, typically about 1–3 bathrooms, that need true salt-based ion-exchange softening and can stay within APEC's published 17.6 GPM peak-flow rating. The 30,000-grain model is the smaller Hydro Express option.
SYSTEM ARCHITECTURE
Water enters at the main line, moves through each treatment stage, and then feeds the entire house. The exact hardware varies by model, but the comparison logic stays the same.
SYSTEM TYPE
Water softener
Sediment or spin-down filtration protects downstream media when required.
Carbon, specialty media, ion exchange, oxidation or another primary treatment stage.
Softening, salt-free conditioning, UV or polishing filters may be separate components.

Published replacement life
Keep the brine tank supplied with water-softener salt and allow the demand-initiated electronic control to regenerate based on actual water use. The system requires a drain line and electrical power and APEC does not recommend outdoor installation. APEC also recommends removing chlorine at 1 ppm or higher before the salt softener to protect the resin.
APEC states the premium cation resin can last about 10–15 years with proper regeneration. Actual resin life will vary with source-water chemistry, chlorine exposure, regeneration settings and usage. Control-head or valve service should be handled according to APEC's owner manual and warranty terms.
APEC's current Hydro Express 30 product page states a five-year limited warranty. Its current whole-house warranty page gives more detail for SOFTENER-series systems: 10 years on tanks, valves, in/out non-electric heads, bypasses and fittings, and five years on solid-state electronic heads when applicable. Coverage is subject to APEC's warranty conditions and exclusions.
This is a true salt-based softener, so it needs salt, a drain line and electrical power. APEC says it is not recommended for outdoor installation and recommends chlorine pretreatment when chlorine is 1 ppm or higher. The 30,000-grain figure is softening capacity, not a contaminant-removal certification. Do not treat this system as PFAS, chlorine/chloramine or microbial filtration unless separate documented treatment is installed.
ORIGIN & MANUFACTURING
FilterTier distinguishes headquarters, design, manufacturing and final assembly. When an exact model's origin is not publicly confirmed, we say that instead of guessing.

RESEARCH STATUS
Verified current APEC SOFTENER-HE-30-FG product page and warranty page: 30,000-grain capacity, 17.6 GPM peak flow, 1.0 cu ft standard resin, 20–125 psi, 34–110°F, 10–15 year resin-life statement with proper regeneration, current manufacturer-direct price and split whole-house warranty terms.
APEC states that its systems are designed and engineered in the USA and that it uses premium components made in the United States, but the current Hydro Express 30 page does not clearly state that the complete SOFTENER-HE-30-FG system is assembled or manufactured entirely in the USA.

WHY IT MATTERS
Country-of-origin can affect buyer preference, serviceability, parts availability and perceived manufacturing quality — but it is scored separately from filtration performance.
FILTERTIER PRICE TRACKER
We track observed selling prices over time and compare today's price with the system's normal range. Crossed-out MSRP and perpetual “50% off” labels do not count as meaningful savings.

Manufacturer-direct sale price observed on APECWater.com on 2026-10-02. FilterTier does not infer a discount from a missing/unclear regular price.
If a system is almost always sold at 40–55% off MSRP, FilterTier treats that sale price as the normal market price and judges value from there.
INSTALLATION CONTEXT
• Main-line size and connection diameter • Available service flow and incoming pressure • Drain requirement / backwash routing • Electrical outlet or UV/controller power • Tank/cartridge replacement clearance • Bypass and isolation valves • Pressure gauges before/after restrictive stages • Floor drain / leak protection where appropriate
The best treatment spec is still the wrong purchase if it cannot be installed, serviced, or supplied with enough flow in your actual house.
