Well-water homes with confirmed hydrogen-sulfide / rotten-egg odor that want a non-electric, demand-operated twin-tank treatment system with continuous treatment during regeneration.
SYSTEM ARCHITECTURE
Water enters at the main line, moves through each treatment stage, and then feeds the entire house. The exact hardware varies by model, but the comparison logic stays the same.
SYSTEM TYPE
Sulfur filter
Sediment or spin-down filtration protects downstream media when required.
Carbon, specialty media, ion exchange, oxidation or another primary treatment stage.
Softening, salt-free conditioning, UV or polishing filters may be separate components.

Published replacement life
Kinetico's linked Sulfur Guard owner manual says ongoing maintenance includes monitoring and replenishing the system's regenerant supply as needed using the manufacturer-approved regenerant. The system automatically regenerates the Sulfaban media. If sulfur odor returns, Kinetico recommends dealer evaluation because water conditions or calibration may have changed before assuming the media needs replacement.
Kinetico states the Sulfaban media can provide years of service but may require replacement within about five years, depending on the amount of hydrogen sulfide and the home's water chemistry. Media replacement and system testing should be performed by an authorized Kinetico water professional.
Kinetico's current 2026 residential limited warranty lists seven years on the 2060f Sulfur Guard. Because the current consumer product page is presented as the broader Sulfur Guard Backwashing Filter family and does not expose the installed model number, FilterTier does not apply that seven-year term to every configuration without confirmation. The same warranty states freight/labor are not included and requires authorized sale, installation, registration and service conditions.
Start with a water test: rotten-egg odor can have different causes, and Kinetico dealer sizing should match the actual hydrogen-sulfide level and household demand. The linked owner manual publishes a 5 GPM service-flow specification, so verify the exact installed model and peak-flow needs before assuming the system fits a large simultaneous fixture load. This is a sulfur/hydrogen-sulfide treatment system; it should not be treated as proof of hardness, PFAS, chlorine/chloramine or microbial treatment.
ORIGIN & MANUFACTURING
FilterTier distinguishes headquarters, design, manufacturing and final assembly. When an exact model's origin is not publicly confirmed, we say that instead of guessing.

RESEARCH STATUS
Verified current Kinetico Sulfur Guard product page plus linked owner manual: hydrogen-sulfide treatment, non-electric demand operation, twin-tank architecture, 5 GPM published service flow, regenerant maintenance, Sulfaban media replacement guidance and Made-in-USA statement. Current warranty specifically names 2060f at 7 years, so exact installed model should be confirmed.
The Kinetico Sulfur Guard owner manual linked from the current product page identifies the Sulfur Guard system as Made in U.S.A.

WHY IT MATTERS
Country-of-origin can affect buyer preference, serviceability, parts availability and perceived manufacturing quality — but it is scored separately from filtration performance.
FILTERTIER PRICE TRACKER
We track observed selling prices over time and compare today's price with the system's normal range. Crossed-out MSRP and perpetual “50% off” labels do not count as meaningful savings.

LAST CHECKED
If a system is almost always sold at 40–55% off MSRP, FilterTier treats that sale price as the normal market price and judges value from there.
INSTALLATION CONTEXT
• Main-line size and connection diameter • Available service flow and incoming pressure • Drain requirement / backwash routing • Electrical outlet or UV/controller power • Tank/cartridge replacement clearance • Bypass and isolation valves • Pressure gauges before/after restrictive stages • Floor drain / leak protection where appropriate
The best treatment spec is still the wrong purchase if it cannot be installed, serviced, or supplied with enough flow in your actual house.
